He probably included that scene because in the book there is going to be death and he just wanted us to know about it.

My semester goal

Between now and the final week I want to accomplish all my goals that I have during this semester to graduate on June. The grade I’m aiming for is at least a B because I’m trying real hard to pass this class. To achieve my goal I’m doing all my work and turning it on time to get full credit.
